However, a floor can improve insulation and help reduce heat transfer from the ground into the box. Walk-in freezers generally require insulated floors because freezer temperatures can affect the slab below and increase heat loss if the floor is not properly insulated.

A walk-in cooler with floor includes insulated floor panels as part of the box. This can be helpful when the existing floor is not ideal or when better insulation is needed. A no-floor walk-in cooler is installed over an existing surface and usually uses a base track or U-channel to secure the wall panels. No-floor coolers are common for indoor refrigerated storage, but the existing floor must be suitable for commercial foodservice use.
