Berkel MB3/8STD MB Countertop Bread Slicer, 3/8" Slice Thickness, 15-1/2" Loaf Capacity, 1/3 HP, 115V
Description
A countertop bread slicer that cuts a whole loaf into even 3/8" slices in about 8 seconds.
The Berkel MB3/8STD is the 3/8" (10 mm) version of the MB countertop bread slicer. Place a loaf on the rack and lift the operator lever: the motor starts and the blades move back and forth, cutting gently and cleanly from the top. It handles soft and hard crusted loaves up to 15-1/2" long and plugs into a standard grounded 115V outlet.

The slicer is heavy at 185 lb.: plan a sturdy counter or the matching Berkel MB stand, and two people or a lift to place it.
Pre-set 3/8" slices
Blade spacing is fixed at 3/8" (10 mm). Berkel builds the MB in 3/8", 7/16", 1/2" and 3/4" versions, so pick the thickness your menu uses.
About 8 seconds per loaf
Slicing takes approximately 8 seconds per loaf, depending on loaf size and bread type. The slicer turns itself off when the cutting frame reaches the bottom.
Lever start
A convenient operator lever starts the motor and begins the cutting action. A toggle on/off switch with a safety guard and a red plugged-in light sit on the unit.
1/3 HP knife motor
One-speed, 1/3 HP motor, totally enclosed with permanently lubricated ball bearings and thermal protection.
Replaceable blades
Special heat-treated alloy carbon steel blades are mounted independently and can be replaced easily.
Bag and clean up fast
A front-mounted stainless steel bagging trough speeds bagging, and the removable front scrap pan catches crumbs. Product contact areas are stainless steel.
Delivery and setup
- Inspect the carton for damage before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt. Berkel asks that shipping damage be reported to the carrier within 15 days of delivery.
- The slicer weighs 185 lb.: never lift it alone. Use a lift truck or a second person, and set it on a solid, level surface free of obstructions.
- The front right foot adjusts for leveling. To mount it on the optional Berkel stand, four threaded holes next to the legs take 3/8-16 x 1-3/4 bolts through the stand top.
- Plug it into a properly grounded outlet using the three-prong plug provided, and check the outlet voltage against the serial plate first.
Questions buyers ask
Can I change the slice thickness?
No. The MB3/8STD is built with pre-set 3/8" blade spacing. Berkel makes the MB in 3/8", 7/16", 1/2" and 3/4" versions; choose the model that matches the slice you need.

Standing upright, loaves up to 15-1/2" long, 8" wide and 6" high. Laid on their side, up to 15-1/2" long, 8" high and 6" wide.
What power does it need?
115V, 60 Hz, single phase at 6.2 amps. It comes with an attached 6 ft. flexible 3-wire cord and plug for a grounded receptacle.
How do I clean and maintain it?
Switch off and unplug, wipe crumbs from the loading area, blade area and bagging trough, then empty and clean the scrap pan. Wipe the outer frame daily with a cloth moistened with Berkel Food Machine Oil and fill the four front oil cups weekly.

Yes. Berkel advises slowing the cutting frame by holding the front handle until the blades are through the crust when slicing hot or soft textured breads.
