Hatco HCSBFX-24-I Remote Hot/Cold Built-In Flush Top Shelf, Shelf Only, 24" x 19-1/2" Hardcoat Surface, 120V
Description
One built-in shelf that holds hot food at lunch and cold food at dinner, switching modes in as little as 30 minutes.
The Hatco HCSBFX-24-I is a top-mount built-in hot/cold shelf with a 24" x 19-1/2" hardcoat aluminum surface, with a remote control box; the condensing unit is supplied by others. A rope-style heating element under the surface handles HOT mode and a copper evaporator coil handles COLD mode, and the shelf changes from one to the other in as little as 30 minutes. A patented thermal break cuts condensation and heat transfer to the counter around it. It must be connected to a condensing unit supplied by others; the liquid line solenoid valve comes attached to the shelf.
Will it fit · Will it hook up
- Outside size
- 25-1/2" W x 21" D x 7.29" H including parts under the shelf
- Countertop cutout
- 24-5/8" to 25" W x 20-1/8" to 20-1/2" D; top mount, sealed with NSF-approved silicone
- Control box
- 13.94" W x 6.63" H x 5.43" D; wall cutout 13-1/8" W x 5-5/8" H in a vertical surface, outside the heat zone
- Power
- 120V, 60 Hz, 3.7 A; a qualified electrician wires site power to the control box, which feeds the shelf and the solenoid valve
- Refrigeration
- Condensing unit by others; evaporator load 1,019 BTU/hr; 3/8" O.D. suction line; solenoid valve 120V, 12 W
- Room
- Indoors, 65°F to 86°F ambient; away from fryers, grills, exhaust hoods and drafts
Have the electrician and refrigeration installer confirm the layout before the shelf arrives: the shelf, control box and refrigeration by others are connected on site.
Hot or cold on demand
Switch between HOT and COLD mode from the control box; the shelf changes over in as little as 30 minutes.
Wide setpoint ranges
The HOT controller sets from 65°F to 192°F (factory 180°F) and the COLD controller from 10°F to 50°F (factory 25°F).
Patented thermal break
Reduces condensation and temperature transfer onto the countertop around the shelf.
Flush hardcoat surface
The food-safe hardcoat aluminum top gives a 24" x 19-1/2" heated and cooled area, flush with the counter.
Use your own refrigeration
With no condensing unit of its own, the shelf can be cooled from a remote system using other refrigerants.
Delivery and setup
- Inspect the crate for damage before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt. Approximate shipping weight is 84 lb.
- Transport and install it upright only. In cold weather, let it sit at 65°F to 86°F for at least 10 hours before you turn it on.
- Two or more people are needed to lower the shelf into the cutout. Do not tip the counter after installation: the shelf is free-floating.
- It ships as separate components. Qualified installers must make the refrigerant and electrical connections to local codes, and mount the control box on a vertical surface within 6 ft of the shelf.
- Plan for a refrigeration contractor to connect and charge the condensing unit supplied by others.
Questions buyers ask
How long does it take to switch from hot to cold?
Hatco says the shelf changes modes in as little as 30 minutes, and the manual says to allow about 30 minutes to reach setpoint before loading.
Can food sit right on the surface?
No. Hatco says food must be wrapped, boxed or on a food pan, not placed directly on the hardcoat surface.
What temperatures can I set?
HOT mode sets from 65°F to 192°F and comes set at 180°F. COLD mode sets from 10°F to 50°F and comes set at 25°F. An auto-defrost cycle can be turned on in COLD mode.
What refrigeration do I need?
A condensing unit supplied by others, sized for the 1,019 BTU/hr evaporator load Hatco lists for this model. The shelf comes with a TXV valve and an attached 120V liquid line solenoid valve.
What power does it need?
120V, 60 Hz. Hatco rates the shelf at 445 W and 3.7 A. Site power is wired to the control box by a qualified electrician.
What warranty does it have?
Hatco covers it under its limited warranty. Register the unit online within 90 days of factory shipment.
