Which Norlake line fits your business?
Norlake builds walk-ins only, so the choice comes down to four questions: cooler or freezer, indoor or outdoor, floor or floorless, and where the refrigeration goes. Self-contained Capsule Pak ECO systems sit on the roof of the box and are made for rooms 14' long and under; remote Split-Pak systems put the condensing unit outside.
| Line | Best for | Model prefixes |
|---|---|---|
| Walk-in coolers, self-contained | Plug-in cooler, rooms up to 14' long | FTB…-CX-M, KLB |
| Walk-in coolers, remote | Bigger rooms, heat and noise kept outside | FTB…-X |
| Floorless walk-in coolers | Carts and roll-in racks | FTB74, FTB84, KLB74 |
| Walk-in freezers, self-contained | Frozen storage, rooms up to 14' long | FTF…-CX-M, KLF |

Kold Locker is the quick-ship line: single-compartment, self-contained coolers and freezers from 6' x 6' to 10' x 14', 7'7" with floor or 7'4" floorless; Norlake says over 14,000 configurations ship in as little as 2 days. Fast-Trak adds widths of 6' to 12' and depths of 6' to 20' in 1-foot steps, heights from 6'7" to 8'7", remote systems and cooler/freezer combos; Norlake lists 40,000+ standard configurations. Who makes Norlake, and where?
Norlake, Inc. is based at 891 County Road U in Hudson, Wisconsin, just east of St. Paul and Minneapolis. According to Norlake, the company started in 1947 in a creamery garage in Hudson, making bar and restaurant refrigeration and ice cube makers, and stayed family-owned until 2003, when it joined the Standex Foodservice Equipment Group.
In 2020 Ten Oaks Group bought Norlake and, together with Master-Bilt, formed Refrigerated Solutions Group (RSG). RSG backs both brands' warranties and service. Norlake also runs a separate Scientific division for lab and medical refrigeration.

How Norlake walk-ins are built
- Panels: 4" foamed-in-place polyurethane with HFO blowing agent, cam-lock joints and a stucco-embossed coated steel finish. Kold Locker's spec sheet lists R-25 walls and doors for coolers and R-32 for freezers.
- Floor: aluminum floor rated for 800 lb per sq. ft.; a heavy-duty floor with 1/2" plywood underlayment (1,000 psf) is an option for foot traffic and light carts.
- Door: 26", 30" or 36" wide, self-closing, with an adjustable spring hinge, deadbolt handle with inside safety release, LED light and digital thermometer/light switch. Fast-Trak doors ship with two 2-foot filler panels, so the door can go anywhere along a wall.
- Refrigeration: Capsule Pak ECO runs on R290, a natural refrigerant with a global warming potential of 3, and comes with the LogiTemp electronic controller. Split-Pak remote systems use R-449A or A2L refrigerants.

Certifications and energy rules
- Listings: NSF listed panels, UL flame spread of 25 or less, UL and C-UL electrical listing on refrigeration systems, UL NCKL ignition protection listing and USDA acceptance.
- Energy: Norlake walk-ins are built to Department of Energy (DOE) walk-in rules; Norlake states its dedicated medium-temperature remote condensing units meet the DOE minimum AWEF of 5.61 indoors and 7.6 outdoors.
- Florida: RSG freestanding and L-shaped walk-ins carry State of Florida and Miami-Dade approvals, including High-Velocity Hurricane Zone sizes. Ask us before you order an outdoor box for Florida.
- ENERGY STAR: ENERGY STAR has no walk-in cooler or freezer category, so walk-ins are judged by the DOE rules instead.

Is Norlake a good brand?
Norlake has built refrigeration in Hudson, Wisconsin since 1947, and its walk-ins serve restaurants, chains and schools. Its strengths are the 15-year panel warranty, 18 months of standard parts and labor, foamed-in-place polyurethane panels, and a wide range of standard sizes, so most kitchens never need a custom box.
The trade-offs: warranty labor needs an RSG authorized service provider, the standard floor is not made for carts, and remote systems need a refrigeration contractor to set, pipe and charge them on site. Plan installation before the box arrives.

Norlake FAQ
What is the Norlake walk-in warranty?
Norlake's warranty document 089604 Rev. O gives 15 years on walk-in panels (replacement materials only, no labor) and 18 months of parts and labor on original equipment from installation. A 5-year compressor warranty is optional, and completing RSG's commissioning program adds 6 months, for 2 years of parts and labor. Repairs must be done by an RSG authorized service provider.
What is the Norlake warranty phone number?
Norlake's contact page lists 833-327-5989 for parts, service and warranty, and rsgservice@refsg.com by email. The RSG technical service team answers Monday to Friday, 7:30 AM to 10 PM Central, and Saturday 9 AM to 6 PM Central. Have the model and serial numbers of the box and the refrigeration system ready.
Who owns Norlake?
Norlake is part of Refrigerated Solutions Group (RSG). Ten Oaks Group bought Norlake in 2020 and combined it with Master-Bilt to form RSG, which handles warranty and service for both brands. Before that, Norlake belonged to Standex from 2003 and was family-owned since its start in Hudson, Wisconsin, in 1947.
Is Norlake still in business?
Yes. Norlake, Inc. still builds walk-in coolers, freezers and refrigeration systems in Hudson, Wisconsin, under Refrigerated Solutions Group. Its current lines are Kold Locker quick-ship walk-ins, Fast-Trak semi-custom walk-ins and Fineline custom walk-ins, with Capsule Pak ECO and Split-Pak refrigeration, and its 2026 spec sheets and warranty documents are current.
What is the difference between Kold Locker and Fast-Trak?
Kold Locker is Norlake's quick-ship line: single-compartment, self-contained boxes from 6' x 6' to 10' x 14', 7'7" with floor or 7'4" floorless, which Norlake says ship in as little as 2 days. Fast-Trak adds 1-foot size steps up to 12' x 20', heights from 6'7" to 8'7", remote systems and combos.
What is a Norlake Capsule Pak?
Capsule Pak is Norlake's self-contained refrigeration system. It sits on the ceiling of the walk-in, so there is no outside condensing unit or refrigerant piping to install. The current Capsule Pak ECO uses R290 refrigerant and a LogiTemp electronic controller. Norlake makes it for rooms 14' long and under; larger rooms use a remote Split-Pak.
Do I need a floor in my walk-in cooler?
Norlake makes floorless boxes as coolers only; freezers come with the insulated floor. A cooler can go floorless (7'4" or 8'4" high) on a level concrete floor, which lets carts and racks roll straight in. With a floor, Norlake's standard aluminum floor is rated for 800 lb per sq. ft. and is not meant for carts; choose the heavy-duty floor if you will roll carts inside.
Does Atlantic offer free shipping on Norlake?
Yes. Every Norlake model we list ships free to the contiguous United States, is marked for quick shipping (within 2 business days) and carries our Best Price Guarantee. Call 201-467-8222 to confirm stock on a specific configuration or to get a project quote.
