Hatco C-39 Compact Electric Booster Water Heater, 39 kW, 6 Gal. Tank, 208/240/480V
Description
A space-saving electric booster that lifts dish machine rinse water to the 180°F needed to sanitize, with 39 kW of heat for up to 391 gallons per hour at a 40°F rise.
The Hatco C-39 is the 39 kW size of the Compact booster family. It keeps 6 gallons of water in a Castone-lined, fiberglass-insulated tank and delivers 391 GPH at a 40°F rise or 224 GPH at a 70°F rise. Hatco builds it for 208, 240 or 480 volts, so the voltage and phase are set when the order is placed. It sits next to the dish machine on 6" legs or slides under a dishtable on optional brackets.

- Clearance
- At least 2" at the sides, open front access to the control box, and room to service the T/P relief valve
- Power
- Set at order: 208V 1-Ph 187.5 A, 250 A Breaker; 208V 3-Ph 108.3 A, 150 A Breaker; 240V 1-Ph 162.5 A, 225 A Breaker; 240V 3-Ph 93.9 A, 125 A Breaker; 480V 3-Ph 47 A, 60 A Breaker. Hardwired, no cord
- Water
- 3/4" NPT inlet and outlet, copper pipe only; hot supply at 115°F to 145°F, never over 155°F
- Pressure
- Pressure reducing valve with bypass, set to 20 psi flow pressure when the supply is over 25 psi
- Location
- Indoors at 70°F or warmer, within 5 ft. of the dish machine or add recirculation
- Water quality
- Soften water over 3 grains per gallon hardness; lime damage is not covered by warranty
Smallest outside dimension is the 18" width; electrical knockouts (1-1/2" and 2") are on the left side and bottom.
Sized by kilowatts
39 kW of metal-sheathed elements recover 391 GPH at a 40°F rise and 224 GPH at a 70°F rise. Match it to the rinse GPH of your dish machine.
Castone-lined tank
The 6-gallon tank is Castone lined, wrapped in fiberglass insulation, rated for 150 psi working pressure and tested at 300 psi.
Safety parts included
Each unit ships with a temperature/pressure relief valve, a pressure reducing valve with high-pressure bypass, two temperature/pressure gauges, a high-limit switch and a low-water cut-off.
Mounts where it fits
Stand it next to the dish machine on 6" legs, or weld slide rails under the dishtable and hang it on Hatco slide brackets.
Simple controls
An on/off switch doubles as reset. A power light shows it is on; the error light flashes for a probe or low-water fault and stays solid when the high limit trips.
Fast service access
Swing-away front panels hold the low-water cut-off, control fuses and transformer, so a tech reaches probes and elements quickly.
Delivery and setup
- Inspect the carton for damage before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt.
- Shipping weight is about 142 lb. To fit the legs, lay the unit on its side, never on the control panel side or the pipe side.
- Hatco requires installation by qualified installers to local electrical and plumbing codes; the unit is voltage-specific and hardwired to a breaker or fused disconnect supplied by the electrical contractor.
- Plumb it with a shut-off valve, a 3/4" union and a drain valve, which are not supplied, plus the included gauges and valves as the manual shows.
- Fill the tank and bleed all air out through the dish machine rinse nozzles before turning on power; dry elements burn out in seconds.
- Register the unit with Hatco within 90 days of factory shipment to qualify for the additional warranty coverage.
Questions buyers ask
How do I know this size fits my dish machine?
Find your machine's final rinse GPH and the rise from your incoming hot water to the rinse temperature. The C-39 supplies 391 GPH at a 40°F rise and 224 GPH at a 70°F rise. If you need more, Hatco notes two boosters can be plumbed in series.
What electrical service does it need?
It depends on the voltage you order. Hatco lists: 208V 1-Ph 187.5 A, 250 A Breaker; 208V 3-Ph 108.3 A, 150 A Breaker; 240V 1-Ph 162.5 A, 225 A Breaker; 240V 3-Ph 93.9 A, 125 A Breaker; 480V 3-Ph 47 A, 60 A Breaker. It is hardwired to a disconnect, with copper wire only.
What water supply does it need?
A copper hot water line from your main water heater at 115°F to 145°F, never over 155°F. Inlet and outlet are 3/4" NPT. Water harder than 3 grains per gallon must be softened first.
What is the warranty?
Hatco covers the electric booster tank for 1 year parts and labor plus 9 more years parts only. Components not listed separately carry 18 months. Failures from lime, sediment, chemical attack or freezing are excluded.
Is it listed for health and electrical inspection?
The Compact spec sheet shows the cULus and NSF marks, and the heater is built to UL 1453. It is made in the USA.
Can I order it single phase?
Hatco offers single phase on this size at 208 or 240 volts, but notes it is uncommon at 24 kW and up, needs written confirmation of the amp load, cannot be converted in the field and is not returnable.
Which options can be added?
At order time only: a stainless steel body and base, or a security package with Torx screws and a control cover. Accessories such as extra slide brackets, stainless adjustable legs, a shock absorber and a back pressure relief valve can be added any time.
