Hatco DHWBI-S4 Drop-In Modular Dry Slim Heated Wells, 4 Full-Size Pans, Lengthwise, 120/208-240V
Description
A 4-well drop-in dry heated well that holds hot food with convected air, so there is no water to fill or plumb.
The Hatco DHWBI-S4 is a drop-in modular dry heated well in the slim format, with full-size wells placed lengthwise. Its 4 full-size wells use a fan and metal sheathed element to surround the food pan with even convected heat, for accurate holding temperatures without the water and plumbing of a steam table. Each well has its own control in a remote box on a 6 ft. conduit. It drops into a non-combustible countertop with EZ locking hardware.

- 87.926" to 88.176" W x 14.016" to 14.266" D; add 1/16" to the maximum width when using EZ locking mount
- Below the counter
- Hatco requires 17-3/16" of clear space below the cutout
- Power
- Single phase. Single control box: 120/208-240V, 3,840 W, 16.0 A, optional NEMA L14-20P plug. Split controls: 120V: 2 boxes of 1,920 W, 16 A each; 120/208-240V: 2 boxes of 1,920 W, 8 A each
- Control box
- Remote on a 6 ft. conduit; cutout 18.313" W x 4.698" H, 6-1/2" deep, on a vertical surface; split boxes 10.313" and 10.313" W (US only)
- Drain
- 3/4" NPT brass spill drain with ball valve, for cleanup only; no water hookup
Plan for 17-3/16" of clear space under the counter and a wall spot at the front of the unit for the control box.
Dry convected heat
A fan moves heated air evenly around the food pan, so there is no water to fill, drain or refill and no plumbing to run.
Slim lengthwise layout
Full-size wells are placed lengthwise in a 15.625" deep body, keeping food within easy reach behind a sneeze guard.
Control for every well
Each well has its own compact thermostatic control and a lighted On/Off switch that keeps the setting when the well is off.
Flexible pan setup
Each full-size well sits lengthwise and takes one full-size pan, two 1/2-size, three 1/3-size or six 1/6-size pans with adapter bars, or two 7 qt. or three 4 qt. round pans with an adapter top. Pans, bars and adapters are sold separately.
Spill drain
A 3/4" NPT brass drain with ball valve clears food spills and protects the fan and motor from liquid that collects in the well.
Service from the top
The easy-to-service design gives quick access to elements and components from the top of the well.
Delivery and setup
- Inspect the carton for damage before you sign, and note any damage on the delivery receipt.
- Hatco supplies EZ locking hardware for topside mounting on a non-combustible countertop up to 3/16" thick; brackets (HWB-MNT-REC) handle counters 3/16" to 2" thick. A ribbon putty gasket goes between the unit and the counter.
- Leave at least 4-1/2" from the bottom and sides of the unit to combustible surfaces, or 1" to non-combustible surfaces.
- Mount the remote control enclosure on a vertical wall at the front of the unit; the controls are wired to their wells and cannot be rewired.
- Have a qualified electrician make the connection, or order the factory cord and plug. Units are voltage specific, so specify voltage at order.
- Hatco notes the unit is for rooms between 70°F and 85°F, and should not be used to melt or hold ice.
Questions buyers ask
Does a dry well need water or a drain line?
No. The DHWBI heats with dry convected air, so there is no water fill or plumbing. The 3/4" NPT brass drain with ball valve is only for cleaning up spills; keep the valve closed while the unit runs.
What voltage options are there?
120/208-240V, or 120V with split controls, single phase. 120/208-240V draws 16.0 A at 3,840 W. Specify voltage when ordering.
Is there a cord and plug?
A factory cord and plug is an option on single-phase, single-control-box units: NEMA L14-20P for 120/208-240V. Otherwise the unit is hardwired.
Can I get split control boxes?
Yes, at time of order and in the US only (not Canada). Split controls also make the DHWBI-S4 available in 120V. Ratings per box: 120V: 2 boxes of 1,920 W, 16 A each; 120/208-240V: 2 boxes of 1,920 W, 8 A each.
What pans can I use?
Each well takes one full-size pan, two 1/2-size, three 1/3-size or six 1/6-size pans with adapter bars, or two 7 qt. or three 4 qt. round pans with an adapter top. Pans and adapters are sold separately.
What size hole do I cut?
87.926" to 88.176" wide by 14.016" to 14.266" deep, with 17-3/16" of clearance below the cutout. The control box needs a 18.313" x 4.698" opening.
What warranty does Hatco give?
One year parts and on-site labor is standard, and the heating element is covered by a 2-year parts warranty.
