Build a coffee and tea station around the drinks you serve and the pace of your busiest service window. Commercial coffee brewers, espresso machines, grinders, milk steamers, and tea equipment perform different jobs; the right combination depends on your menu, staffing, and utilities. Use this guide to compare brewing, holding, and dispensing equipment for cafés, restaurants, hotels, offices, and foodservice counters.
Choose equipment for your beverage menu
| Equipment type | Service role | What to compare |
|---|---|---|
| Coffee brewers | Batch or single-cup brewed coffee | Serving format, rated output, batch size, water connection |
| Espresso machines & grinders | Espresso drinks and staffed coffee bars | Controls, groups, grinder suitability, steam workflow |
| Coffee urns & percolators | Group beverage service | Brewing versus holding function, usable capacity, power |
| Milk frothers & steamers | Milk preparation for specialty drinks | Operating method, intended beverages, utility requirements |
| Iced tea brewers & dispensers | Preparing and serving brewed iced tea | Batch size, dispenser fit, dilution configuration |
| Hot water dispensers | Heated water for beverage preparation | Temperature control, rated output, refill method |
| Cappuccino & hot chocolate dispensers | Prepared hot drinks from approved mixes | Hopper configuration, mix compatibility, cleaning access |
| Cold brew dispensing equipment | Serving prepared cold coffee | Concentrate versus ready-to-drink format, chilling and gas needs |
Match coffee brewing to the way you serve
Start with the serving format. A decanter brewer supports pot-based service, while an airpot or thermal-server brewer fills a matching insulated vessel. Satellite systems support a separate serving location. Single-cup equipment suits an operation where drinks are prepared individually rather than held as a batch.
Compare the volume needed during your peak service period with the brewer’s rated output and the capacity of its serving vessel. Tank capacity, batch size, and hourly production describe different things. A large tank does not, by itself, establish how many drinks the station can deliver during a rush. Check whether the airpot, server, decanter, or stand is included with the exact model.
Choose an espresso machine and grinder as a working pair
For an espresso-led menu, review the machine’s group configuration, controls, milk-steaming arrangement, and operator workflow. Traditional and automatic configurations require different levels of staff involvement. Match the grinder to the brewing method and intended pace of service; a bulk coffee grinder and an espresso grinder should not be treated as interchangeable without checking their specifications.
Include workspace for dosing, milk preparation, and cleanup when comparing countertop dimensions. Where your menu needs additional steaming capacity, a dedicated milk frother or steamer may be worth considering. Verify its intended drinks, water supply, and electrical requirements rather than assuming every milk-preparation unit operates the same way.
Separate tea brewing, hot water, and prepared-drink dispensing
An iced tea brewer prepares a batch; a tea dispenser provides the serving vessel. Check the brewer’s clearance over the selected dispenser, batch capacity, and any dilution or sweetener configuration. Hot water dispensers provide heated water for beverage preparation and are a separate equipment type.
Cappuccino and hot chocolate dispensers should be selected for their approved mix, hopper arrangement, and serving controls. A powder-based hot beverage dispenser is not an espresso machine. For cold coffee, distinguish equipment that prepares a concentrate from equipment that stores, dilutes, chills, or dispenses it. A cold brew dispenser does not necessarily brew coffee.
Check the installation before choosing a model
Confirm whether the selected unit is manual-fill or connected to a water supply. Review the exact voltage, phase, amperage, plug or hardwire requirement, and water specifications in its current installation document. Filtration and water treatment should meet the manufacturer’s requirements; a filter intended for another appliance is not automatically suitable.
Measure the available counter and overhead space with the receiving vessel in place. Leave access for filling, cleaning, and removing components. Ask about the equipment and accessories included in the quote so that the station is ready for the way you intend to serve.
Complete a coordinated beverage station
For blended or freshly squeezed drinks, explore Blenders & Juicers. For chilled premixed drinks and slush service, see Cold & Frozen Beverage Dispensers. Refrigerated storage equipment remains in Atlantic’s Refrigeration department; choose it separately for the ingredients and packaged products you need to keep cold.
Frequently asked questions
Does every commercial coffee brewer need plumbing?
No. Manual-fill and water-connected models serve different installation needs. Check the current specification and installation sheet for the exact model.
Should I size a brewer by tank capacity alone?
No. Consider batch size, rated production, serving-vessel capacity, and the volume needed during your busiest period. Confirm whether published output describes brewing or dispensing.
Is a cappuccino dispenser the same as an espresso machine?
No. Prepared-mix dispensers and espresso-brewing equipment use different ingredients and processes. Choose equipment for the drinks you plan to serve.
Does a cold brew dispenser make cold brew coffee?
Not necessarily. Many dispensing systems serve a prepared beverage or concentrate. Confirm the brewing, chilling, dilution, and dispensing functions included in the model.
